Soka Spirit Activities in Atlanta
April is a significant month of Soka Spirit, and we would like to have 2 activities to commemorate and deepen our understanding of what Soka Spirit really means in our practice.
Here are 2 special activities for Soka Spirit:
Soka Spirit Study hosted by YD
Saturday April 24, 2010 @ 1pm
Atlanta Community Center
--> ALL MEMBERS WELCOME, but we especially want to invite YOUTH DIVISION. We will have detailed presentations on Soka Spirit and a Q&A session. We have many many new members join SGI, many new youth coming out to Rock the Era meetings this year. Let us refresh our determination in understanding the importance of Soka Spirit and how it is about practicing this Buddhism correctly in our daily lives!
4/28 Commemorative Intro to Buddhism Meeting hosted by ASER MD/WD
Wednesday April 28, 2010 @ 7pm
Atlanta Community Center
--> the best way to win in Soka Spirit is to introduce others to the correct teaching of Nichiren Buddhism and what SGI does. This is also the day when Nichiren Daishonin established our Buddhism. Toward the effort of doubling youth, let's challenge ourselves in inviting 1 friend!
Please spread the word!!
The Daishonin states: "The element ku in the word kudoku [benefit] . . . refers to the merit achieved by wiping out evil, while the element toku or doku refers to the virtue one acquires by bringing about good" (OTT, 148). The way to eradicate the evil or the darkness and delusion in our lives is to chant abundant daimoku, make efforts to further kosen-rufu, and to fight against any evil that causes people suffering and misery. This is how benefit is achieved. Fighting against evil produces benefit. In one of his famous plays, the Spanish poet and playwright Lope de Vega (1562-1635) has a king explain that he could not show mercy without first weighing what was right and wrong.3 I dedicate the great writer's call to distinguish between right and wrong to you, my courageous young friends of the youth division, who are raising the banner of truth and justice high into the skies.
